Walking the Wharf And other places that caught my eye

The dog days of summer, how tempting it can be to lay around in the AC.  Last week on a particularly slow morning, I decided to brave the heat and take myself downtown – after all, I can’t sit back and let this fleeting summer pass me by! I found myself at Bowen’s Wharf, one of my favorite Newport spots that I hadn’t visited in quite some time. Immediately, I was immersed in the wide array of shopping and dining options. Being overcome with the smell of fresh crepes, my sweet tooth kicked it into high gear, and I decided that a stop at La Petite Creperie was a must.  All of their sweet and savory crepes are to die for, but I was particularly happy with my choice of the S’mores themed crepe. The fact that I got to watch the tasty confections being made was a huge plus as well. Next, I made a stop at Newport’s Fruit and Smoothie stand – why not keep with the sweet theme? This stand is perhaps the cutest spot on the wharf! Here, you can customize and mix any fruits together to create a truly delicious smoothie- making my decision to get a raspberry/mango fusion so much easier. After leaving the Wharf, I found myself back on Thames, being called to inviting store frontage of the Shore Soap Co. With all their natural products, I find it impossible to leave empty handed!  I picked up some usual products – my favorite being the Boardwalk body lotion – and fell in love with a new scent called Changing Tides.  A hot day for sure, but a day well spent, I am glad to have beat the heat and revisited some of my favorite Newport shops, smells, soaps, and sweets.
