On the eve of Newport’s 57th Annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade we would like to take a moment to be thankful for our fantastic little city by the sea. We are so lucky to live in such a beautiful locale filled with wonderful culture and spirit. We look forward to welcoming tourists and locals alike to join in the festivities but we’d like to remind everyone to take care of our lovely city! Erin Go Bragh!

One of our absolute favorite features in a home is the solarium. Especially during the dark winter months, the solarium is literally and figuratively therapeutic. Attached to the main house with walls and sometimes ceilings built entirely from glass, solaria are year-round spaces for sunlight to flood in casting a warm, golden light. Featured below are some of our favorite takes on solaria, beginning with one found right here in one of our sales listings in Newport on Bull Street.  Imagine yourself perched at this table on a frigid January day with a piping hot cup of tea, cozy with mother nature’s warmth radiating in making you think it’s more like July than the dead of winter.

There’s nothing better than returning home from the beach, your body glazed with sea salt from the ocean, and stepping under the warm stream of water from an outdoor shower. Not having to trek your sandy feet inside the house and clogging up the drain with seaweed and sand, but instead returning these tokens back to Mother Nature as they wash away back into the earth.  One of our favorite beach house features is the outdoor shower and luckily here on Aquidneck Island, many of the homes here are blessed with this fabulous attribute. Below are a few of some outdoor showers that make us crave the summer sunshine!

On this gorgeous sunny but brisk Sunday, why not pack up the kiddos and head to Lily Pond for some winter fun? Bundle up and be sure to bring some hot cocoa to stay warm!

If the eyes are windows to the soul, your front door is the window to your home.  In historic Newport, if you meander down Thames and the winding side streets, you will see richly hued front doors adorned with heavy metal, iconic door knockers. Of course you will see the traditional pineapple knocker (as a welcoming signal to traveling sailors from back in the day) but these days we are seeing more ornate, creative pieces like anchors, whale tales and more. Below are a few door knockers we found from homes around the world that we love!  Enjoy…
