There’s nothing better than returning home from the beach, your body glazed with sea salt from the ocean, and stepping under the warm stream of water from an outdoor shower. Not having to trek your sandy feet inside the house and clogging up the drain with seaweed and sand, but instead returning these tokens back to Mother Nature as they wash away back into the earth.  One of our favorite beach house features is the outdoor shower and luckily here on Aquidneck Island, many of the homes here are blessed with this fabulous attribute. Below are a few of some outdoor showers that make us crave the summer sunshine!

Despite recent events (eh-hem Hurricane Sandy), word on the street is that Halloween is still ON for tonight! The children of Newport, and some crazy adults too- will get dolled up to stroll the streets trick-or-treating for tasty morsels of chocolate!  One of the most stand-out individuals that come to mind when we think of Halloween is model/actor Heidi Klum. On top of being insanely beautiful and talented, she’s also extremely creative when it comes to her costumes. Being that Halloween is her favorite holiday of the year, Klum always goes above and beyond when it comes to her disguise.  From a sexy interpretation of Betty Boop to a scientific Bodies replica, Heidi always takes Halloween to the next level. Check out some of her craziest costumes below!

Just because we’ve hung up our swim suits for the season doesn’t mean that we’re going to start gorging on turkey and stuffing. Au contraire! Autumn is ramping up to be a very busy season for the LKRE team so now, more than ever- we need to keep our bodies strong and our minds focused. We recently had the pleasure of taking a fantastic Pilates Mat class with Pilates guru Colleen Aull of Aull Pilates. The studio was pristine, filled with all sorts of contraptions that were slightly overwhelming! There were reformers in the back, straps hanging from the ceiling, but Colleen’s smile reassured us that we were in exactly the right place.

The class was small and intimate which means we received lots of personal attention and guidance. Colleen guided us through several Pilates series that made our abs quiver, thighs shake and certainly made us break a sweat in the first 15 minutes! Colleen’s gentle approach made us feel right at home, providing a plethora of options for each exercise making them doable for every level. We left the studio feeling centered and powerful- ok fine, and exhausted!  However the most intense feeling we had was “WE WANT MORE!” We can’t wait to go again next week to continue our practice.

We’re thrilled to announce that Libby will be giving the opening remarks at tomorrow’s Design Salon inspired by Design New England Magazine  which will focus on real solutions for the home. This event is part of the weekend-long Newport Antiques Show and will feature presentations by Nicholaeff Architecture + DesignWoodmeister Master BuildersAlly Coulter Designs and more! We were so honored to be asked to speak at this prestigious event!

We wonder if Jay Sweet knew that he’d be returning to Newport every summer, sitting backstage overseeing what’s become one of the best music festivals around when he was just a lad attending St. Georges School in Middletown, RI.  It must have been in those sweet years of youth that Jay fell in love with Newport, surrounded by good buddies, traveling to Dead shows, that he harvested his intrinsic appreciation for music. Flash forward to today, Jay Sweet is the Producer of the ever-so-famous Newport Folk Festival which graces Fort Adams each summer. Over the years, Jay and his team have built impressive line ups including bands like Edward Sharpe and The Magnetic Zeros, Emmy Lou Harris and The Avett Brothers. The Newport Folk Festival has been gaining traction year after year with this summer’s show selling out 3 months in advance! Jay has been known to avoid bringing in fad bands but rather investing in bands that will ultimately invest back into the festival, returning to the Fort even after they become world-famous. Jay considers folk music as an evolution of music that is built to last; music that transcends generations, music that brings people together. A devoted husband and father of 2 darling little boys, we welcome Jay and his crew to Newport this weekend and wish another feather in his cap of success for this year’s festival.
