Art is a very personal thing. Some enthusiasts like portraits of their family while some simply love paintings of fruit. Still, others love abstract photography or sculpture. At LKRE – we are loving mixed media collages these days- artwork that literally and figuratively jumps off the canvas. On the cover of the winter 2012 issue of The New York Times Style Magazine (one of our faves we might add), mixed media artist Florian Baudrexel’s cardboard collage is featured in the living room of creative mastermind Mike Meire in Germany.  Our own Libby Kirwin has been known to create some stunning mixed media masterpieces of her own such as “In Time” which is featured below. While art work takes many forms, somehow the perfect piece finds its way into our homes.

The best part of Thanksgiving is the fact that your fridge is chock full of leftovers the day after. As you all know, Libby is the panini master-mind at LKRE and today she’s cooking up a special post-Thanksgiving lunch that will knock your socks off. Slow roasted turkey breast atop sourdough bread, smothered with homemade cranberry sauce and stuffing. Topped with a little dollop of herbed mayo and sizzled in the panini press for about 5 minutes and voila! Leftover heaven on a plate. Hungry yet?

Yesterday, the LKRE team attended the annual Chocolate Brunch at Ocean Cliff Resort which raised an impressive $47,000+ in funds for the Visiting Nurse Services of Newport and Bristol Counties. The sun was shining and the view was pristine- the food was absolutely decadent and the vibe was posh and elegant. Greeted with mimosas as we entered the ballroom, guests were dressed in their Sunday best as tunes by the Dick Lupino band trailed off in the background. The aroma of cocoa-laced cuisine danced throughout the room, building the anticipation of when brunch was actually served. There was an extensive silent auction in the foyer offering luxury items ranging from weekend getaways, family photo shoots and stunning artwork.

As we took our seats which overlooked a sparkling Narragansett Bay- we were greeted by the hostess with the mostess, Janis Gordon who threw this fabulous shindig together with her trusted team. Our fearless leader Libby (who served as co-chair of the event) was invited to the stage where she eloquently expressed her gratitude towards the Visiting Nurse Services as they were instrumental in her mother’s recovery from cancer years ago. Once the speaking portion concluded, we were free to enjoy the tantalizing menu which we’d been waiting for- any how delicious everything was. One of our favorites was the Hot Cocoa bar- adorned with rich gourmet toppings like shaved white chocolate, ground espresso chips, peppermint stick, ginger cubes and freshly whipped cream!

A huge thank you to all who supported this event!

Sunday afternoon from noon onward, the Visiting Nurse Services of Newport and Bristol Counties will host its popular fundraiser, Chocolate Brunch. The 2012 feast of sweet & savory chocolate brunch fare will take place at Oceancliff Resort overlooking Narragansett Bay with spectacular vistas of Jamestown and yachts heading out toward Brenton Reef.

The magnificent setting will be matched by the popular chocolate feast of chocolate-infused entrees, creative cocoa-laced side dishes, and a spectacular dessert buffet, all expertly catered and served by Oceancliff Resort.  Co-chairs Leslie Reed and our own Libby Kirwin have arranged activities that include pre-Christmas shopping at a tempting Silent Auction, listening to Dick Lupino jazz and taking a chance on a raffle of a mystery travel package.

This is the third Chocolate Brunch that the VNS has hosted as its primary annual fundraiser. The Brunch has become so popular that reservations are required for the limited capacity Oceancliff ballroom. Please visit the website for reservations.

Proceeds from Chocolate Brunch support the mission of the VNS to bring optimal quality home care, hospice, and community health to all residents of Newport and Bristol Counties, regardless of ability to pay.

Happy Columbus Day everyone! As most of us have this lovely fall day off from work, our fearless leader Libby has dedicated this day to undergo a major feat- climbing Mount Washington with her husband Kevin. Amongst their busy work schedules, this power duo has been training all summer with intense workouts- getting their minds and bodies ready for the 4000 foot climb. Today the weather in New Hampshire is a crisp 23 degrees but once they get moving, Libby & Kevin will surely get warmed up! Let’s wish them a strong, safe journey and be sure to welcome them home tomorrow with lots of high fives!
