At the root of our food chain are bees. These buzzing insects are responsible for cross pollination- and hence the harvesting of our crops depend on them each year. Bees also supply us with wonderful, golden sweet honey which we absolutely love in our tea, on our toast in in many of our recipes. In the hive, the honey oozes beautifully from honeycomb- a waxy structure made up of millions of hexagonal openings. This structure – actually an imitation of this structure- is something we’re seeing outside of the hive and in mainstream culture these days in home decor and in fashion. Reminiscent of the royal honey bees and the rich resource they deliver, honeycomb patterns add a geometric element to any room or ensemble. Below are some gorgeous examples of how honeycomb has ventured outside of the hive and into our lives. All hail the bees!

Recently I have teamed up  with Ross Cann of A- Four Architecture to get creative and problem solve in Portsmouth. The challenge was to create a single family dwelling in multi family space. Connecting two sides and making it feel like one. This Eastover neighborhood is one of the most serene locations off Wapping Rd. in Portsmouth. What I love about the advanced technology in Architectural drawings is how simple it is to move a wall or change a window and virtually see the difference in the space immediately with a click of the mouse. Take a look at this conceptual plan changing two into ONE!

We are absolutely loving the look of a crisply colored lacquer tray in the home, office or retail space. Placed atop a cushy ottoman holding a vase and some choice shells or rather atop your bureau filled with your perfumes and some select pieces of jewelry- the lacquer tray can add a welcomed splash of color to the room. Here at LKRE, we use a great Lucite tray on our granite conference room table for client meetings as a vessel to hold notepads, pens and Pellegrino of course!

This spring we’re seeing a very cool trend: PERFORATED clothing and accessories. Beyond the runway, we’re even seeing this perforated trend in the home in stairways, vases, and lighting fixtures.  This spring trend mimics our gym clothing (think mesh but way more luxe!) and will certainly come in handy when the summer heat kicks in and we need all of the ventilation we can get!

One of our favorite summer pass times is walking the beaches collecting shells, sea glass and driftwood pieces. It’s just amazing how beautifully the ocean transforms once rigid, hard sticks, branches and logs into soft, delicate elements.  We love seeing re-purposed drift wood in the home as lighting fixtures, headboards, wall decor and more!
