Let’s face it, natural light is the best when it comes to interior design. There’s nothing better than large windows that the sunlight can cascade through, illuminating the entire room and yielding a delicious warmth that only the sun can deliver. One of our absolute favorite features in a home are skylights. Skylights in the kitchen, in the bedroom and even in the bathroom- these overhead windows allow bright light to flood in making everything look so much better.  Here’s a look at some of our favorite takes on these heavenly panes!

LIBBY BLOG END

Chances are, if you have a useable attic in your home that it’s crammed with boxes of old holiday decorations, the eves are coated in a thick blanket of cobwebs and it smells musty and damp. Alas, we have recently become obsessed with the idea of finished attics- a genius way to extend the space in your house in a non-conventional way. Those cobwebby eves can instead be seen as chic “exposed beams” and the slanted ceilings can be seen as intentional loft-style architecture. Below are some takes on finished attics done right.

One of our absolute favorite features in a home is the solarium. Especially during the dark winter months, the solarium is literally and figuratively therapeutic. Attached to the main house with walls and sometimes ceilings built entirely from glass, solaria are year-round spaces for sunlight to flood in casting a warm, golden light. Featured below are some of our favorite takes on solaria, beginning with one found right here in one of our sales listings in Newport on Bull Street.  Imagine yourself perched at this table on a frigid January day with a piping hot cup of tea, cozy with mother nature’s warmth radiating in making you think it’s more like July than the dead of winter.

It’s not too often that we meet a man that “gets it.” When Libby met Mark Horan years ago back at her restaurant Jack & Josie’s, she could tell right away that Mark was one-of-a-kind. As she got to know him over the years, Libby learned that besides being a skilled builder, designer and artist, that Mark was an all-around great guy! His keen sense of architectural design and interior decor have propelled him to the top of our referral list. Mark truly understands the RI real estate landscape- designing & building incredible homes, selecting the perfect wall colors & fixtures and has a knack for perfect positioning on any lot. As real estate professionals, we can always trust Mark’s design. Plus, despite his extremely busy schedule, Mark finds time to give to the community as a partner of local baseball team, The Newport Gulls. Our hats come off to Mark Horan- you’re simply the best!  Below is a collection of some of Mark’s most acclaimed work. Enjoy!

I love the look of interesting staircases! Forget basic functionality. For centuries, stairs were a huge focal point in architecture, almost a work of art. Not necessarily practical, these eye-popping staircases are an exciting conversation piece that can add drama, light, or imagination to your home.
