This weekend, Libby Kirwin Real Estate is pleased to fuse 2 of our favorite things together: Real Estate and YOGA! Whilst hosting an Open House at 31 Carter Drive in Portsmouth from 10am to 1pm, the lovely Hillary Olinger will be hosting a trunk show featuring NUX yoga gear. This is in perfect timing for Libby’s 30 day personal yoga challenge.  So grab your morning cup o’ joe and head on out to Portsmouth to view a freshly renovated home and to snag some of the season’s hottest workout gear. Namaste.

Old McDonald shouldn’t be the only one who gets to enjoy the rustic architecture of barns. We are loving the look of re-purposed barn doors inside the home. Put on a sliding track or opening traditionally into a living room- barn doors add a touch of pastoral chic to an urban interior pallet. We love them best when contrasted against uber-modern decor. Sharp lines and mod lighting fixtures juxtaposed with large, wooden gate-like doors. The first image below is taken at one of our new rental properties located in Middletown, RI which boasts a super-charming barn door separating the kitchen and dining area from the living room.

As the summer season nears, the sunshine is getting stronger and we’re wearing less clothing. It’s imperative that we protect our fragile skin with a strong SPF. Libby is loving Anthelios SPF 60 by La Roche-Posay. Each morning, she spreads a nourishing layer of the fast-absorbing, light-weight “melt-in sunscreen lotion” on her face to protect it from the damaging UV rays that are present throughout the day. As an avid supporter of the Melanoma Foundation of New England, Libby takes sun care very seriously. We can certainly all still have fun in the sun just as long as we play it smart and use the proper skin protection.

Sunday was the final day of America’s Cup World Series in Naples, Italy and also wrapped the 2012-13 racing season for the global tour. The match racing and fleet racing championships were determining factors for the overall season champs for the second season of racing. A large crowd was present for the day’s action, which was graced with sunny weather and winds similar to the past few days.

While Oracle Team USA had a fantastic performance in the races, we are more interested in one particular sailor aboard the ship: Rome Kirby of Newport, RI. His profile on Oracle’s website boasts not only amazing sailing stats but also talks about Kirby’s appreciation for steak and cheese sandwiches and rapper Lil Wayne’s music. Alas, this guy is not only handsome and talented but also has a great sense of humor! Rome has been sailing the big blue sea since he was a tiny tot and went on to complete the junior circuit between ages 8 -14. When other little boys were busy skateboarding with skinned knees, Rome was busy becoming a world-class sailor well before adulthood. We are proud of our hometown hero and wish him all the best

Recently I have teamed up  with Ross Cann of A- Four Architecture to get creative and problem solve in Portsmouth. The challenge was to create a single family dwelling in multi family space. Connecting two sides and making it feel like one. This Eastover neighborhood is one of the most serene locations off Wapping Rd. in Portsmouth. What I love about the advanced technology in Architectural drawings is how simple it is to move a wall or change a window and virtually see the difference in the space immediately with a click of the mouse. Take a look at this conceptual plan changing two into ONE!
