Libby Kirwin Renovation  + Design Consulting, aka LKRDC, recently teamed up with Katie Parent Adams, President and Owner of KP Design, to add some floral design to an interior design project here in Newport. In a matter of weeks, Libby and her design team transformed an average condominium into a high-end luxury unit.  Tearing down walls, installing gorgeous light fixtures and adorning the space with opulent furniture and decor. The final icing on the cake would be flowers and plants. With such a posh project, Libby knew she needed a florist with talent- so immediately, she called Katie.

Katie has worked in the landscape and floral industry in various creative capacities for nearly two decades. Ever since her very first job in a flower shop, she has loved being around flowers. Truly passionate about plants, she strives to connect people and nature through creative, beautiful spaces and events. With a Landscape Architecture degree from University of Georgia, Katie has committed herself to making the world a more beautifully landscaped place. Prior to founding KP Design in 2008, Katie worked as a landscape designer for Katherine Field and Associates, Inc. in Newport, RI, where she managed multiple high-end residential projects from 2007-2008. Katie also worked at the Boston branch of ValleyCrest Landscape Development, the largest landscape contractor in the country, as a landscape estimator from 2001-2004. Since 2009, Katie has also worked as the head gardener for the Newport Restoration Foundation, working part-time and seasonally on the seaside grounds of Rough Point, the historic Doris Duke estate on Newport’s famed Bellevue Avenue.

Katie brought sophistication and a soft femininity to her recent project- which was absolutely perfect for this particular client. LKRDC looks forward to working with Katie again in the near future!

Libby recently collaborated with the team at  Kelly Wearstler on an interior design project here in Newport. The project called for only the best. With gorgeous lighting fixtures, lush carpeting and to-die-for furnishings, Libby needed to really raise the bar when it came to the table top accessories. Instead of opting for plain white, Libby filled the pantry with a large collection of gold-rimmed plates, gold floral patterned tea cups and saucers and gold flatware. We could only dream of sitting at a dinner party with these place settings. So we give Kelly Wearstler a nod of approval and praise- her bold, chic designs have once again wowed us!

We are fanatics when it comes to clever home decor. We’re especially loving re-purposed, vintage trunks. Used as coffee tables and end tables, these globe-trotting tools offer a charming feel to an otherwise impersonal room. Contrast a classic trunk with a sleek, modern sofa and set of chairs, and suddenly you have a worldly space. Below are some images of vintage trunks that we absolutely adore.

As a design savvy, boutique real estate firm, we can appreciate the finer things in life, especially great lighting. With Libby’s recent renovation and design consulting business taking off, she has been researching fabulous light fixtures and lamps and came across this wonderful local company called Ljusa. Located right here in Rhode Island, Ljusa offers three unique lighting collections: Terra, Vibrant and Exposure. The Terra collection evokes a sense of the earthen roots of the materials it uses. Naturally colored fabrics, hues of land, forest and soil combine with intriguing patterns and trim to add a sumptuous extra dimension.  The Vibrant collection features bright, punch colors and patterns. Whether using freshly thrown bases, or recycled vintage ones, the treatment is designed to enhance the feeling of vitality which is the signature of this collection. Finally, the Exposure collection is the most true to the concept of light. The lamps in this collection bear shades with images created by light through photography. All of these fabrics are printed for Ljusa with carefully selected images in a variety of patterns. Some hearken back to times past with reproductions from the 1800’s, others are more contemporary. Each treatment is unique giving the lamps a wide range of expression. Beyond these collections, Ljusa also can create custom lighting for just about any space.

It’s finally March, the month that Spring commences. As soon as the snow clears, the air will be getting warmer and we will be basking in the sunshine! We can’t wait. One of our favorite warm weather accessories is sunglasses. They can truly transform a person from drab to daring, from stale to sassy.  Timeless aviators, bright retro frames or sleek black- what do YOUR shades say about you?
