The concept of a ladder typically evokes upward mobility.  Usually seen outside in construction sites, we are loving the look of ladders INSIDE the home. Used as storage systems to drape towels or linens over or creatively hung in the kitchen as a pots & pans rack- the ladder has proven that there are many more uses for it beyond the basic climb. However, the standard utility of a ladder inside the home allows for cathedral ceiling storage- no longer confined to cabinets only available within arm’s reach- the ladder allows you to store your goods far above the normal height which leave you plenty of room for your everyday items.

Old McDonald shouldn’t be the only one who gets to enjoy the rustic architecture of barns. We are loving the look of re-purposed barn doors inside the home. Put on a sliding track or opening traditionally into a living room- barn doors add a touch of pastoral chic to an urban interior pallet. We love them best when contrasted against uber-modern decor. Sharp lines and mod lighting fixtures juxtaposed with large, wooden gate-like doors. The first image below is taken at one of our new rental properties located in Middletown, RI which boasts a super-charming barn door separating the kitchen and dining area from the living room.

If only we all had the time to plant a colorful, fruitful garden. How rewarding it would be to till the raw earth, to edge it with beautiful stones, to cultivate seedlings into stunning blooms or delicious vegetables.  Since most of us don’t have the luxury (or time management skills) to construct a true garden, we have found that the next best thing is a contained garden!  By distributing various pots of plants, herbs and even vegetables on your front stoop, your sunny back porch or patio, you can get the feel of a real-deal garden with only a fraction of the work. The local Farmer’s Market sells mini pots of herbs and of course you can hit up and of the grocery stores or Home Depot for various plants and flowers. So get your watering can ready and get your GARDEN on this summer!

The pinacle piece that truly makes a living room is the sofa. Grand and cushy, upholstered in a soft, luxurious fabric, a great sofa is irresistible.  Luring us in, inviting us to cozy up in the comfortable cushions to enjoy a great book, a romantic black and white film or even just some great company and conversation. Below are a few sofas that we find to be absolutely wonderful!

Chances are, if you have a useable attic in your home that it’s crammed with boxes of old holiday decorations, the eves are coated in a thick blanket of cobwebs and it smells musty and damp. Alas, we have recently become obsessed with the idea of finished attics- a genius way to extend the space in your house in a non-conventional way. Those cobwebby eves can instead be seen as chic “exposed beams” and the slanted ceilings can be seen as intentional loft-style architecture. Below are some takes on finished attics done right.
