On Fridays, we can’t help but think about the weekend and more importantly- what we’re wearing! The end of the week means pay day- a time when we’re locked and loaded with cash flow and weekend plans. We have recently discovered the casual & hip downtown shop, Aqua Boutique…and we are in LOVE. The shop’s walls are lined with racks of indie and couture brands such as Maison Scotch, LNA, Bobi and Roberta Roller Rabbit- sort of like a mini Fred Segal nested in the heart of our own city by the sea!  The shelves and displays feature unique gifts, jewelry, custom handbags and timeless books. The shop’s eclectic feel and boho-chic decor propel it to the top of our favorite shops list. Located at 468 Thames Street in Newport, Aqua Boutique also has a location in Boca Grande down in sunny Florida for all of you jet setters.  Plus, Aqua is set to open another shop in Tiverton Four Corners soon! If you have not treated yourself recently, then we suggest you hop to it and get down to Aqua Boutique!

Your book collection reflects a core part of who you are and where you’ve been. You can tell a lot about someone by simply checking out what lines their shelves- are they a traveler? a chef? a wine connoisseur? a fashion maven? an Nat Geo fanatic? It’s important for you to be able to arrange, display and store your volumes in just the right way.

Built-in bookcases make storing your books an integral part of your home decor and self expression. We like to see books grouped together in the same hue, accented with punchy accessories. Luckily here in Newport, many homes we see come equip with these desirable built in shelves- but if you’re not so blessed with such a lovely home accent- they’re pretty simple to install.

I don’t think we’ll ever tire of thumbing through the colorful, glossy pages of our favorite magazine. There is a ritual to it- something oddly soothing about flipping from one page to the next, dog-earing pages that we love and skipping over pages that don’t interest us. In fact, our heart leaps with excitement when a fresh new edition awaits us in our mailbox.  However, with the Digital Age upon us- we’ve learned to embrace all that comes with it. We love our iPhones and iPads so we’re absolutely thrilled that we are able to fuse the concepts of technology and design with digital magazines such as Lonny, RUE, Adore and High Gloss. These online gems are greatly inspirational when it comes to interior design- perfect reading material for when you purchase or rent a new home. Enjoy!

Presidents’ Day, celebrated each year on the third Monday in February, is a day when Americans honor the legacies of the U.S. presidents. The holiday was established in 1800, when Congress declared February 22–George Washington’s birthday–a federal holiday. Still legally known as Washington’s Birthday. In honor of  George Washington take the time to read a few of his famous and my favorite quotes.

“Rise early, that by habit it may become familiar, agreeable, healthy, and profitable. It may, for a while, be irksome to do this, but that will wear off; and the practice will produce a rich harvest forever thereafter; whether in public or private walks of life.”
GEORGE WASHINGTON, letter to George Washington Parke Custis, Jan. 7, 1798

“Labor to keep alive in your breast that little spark of celestial fire, called conscience.”
GEORGE WASHINGTON, Rules of Behavior

”Be courteous to all but intimate with few, and let those few be well tried before you give them your confidence; true friendship is a plant of slow growth, and must undergo and withstand the shocks of adversity before it is entitled to appellation”
GEORGE WASHINGTON, letter, Jan. 15, 1783

“A sensible woman can never be happy with a fool.”
GEORGE WASHINGTON, letter to Eleanor Parke Custis, Jan. 16, 1799

“From thinking proceeds speaking; thence to acting is often but a single step. But how irrevocable and tremendous!”
GEORGE WASHINGTON, letter to John Jay, Aug. 1, 1786

Are you an introvert or extrovert?  We are bombarded with extroverts in the media, pop culture and politics on a daily basis, flooded with their views of the world and how we should live in it.  It’s the friend that always has something to say while you sit quietly and listen.  Neither trait should be thought of as negative, its what guides our personality and makes us who we are.  Susan Cain, author of Quiet: The Power of Introverts, decided to dig a little deeper into our society and study the interactions and behaviors of introverts and extroverts.   My husband was the first to read this insightful and educational book, and I couldn’t wait to get my hands on it.  How do you measure up in this world dominated by extroverts?

Enjoy quiet and solitude everyday while you soak up nature’s endless beauty at our newest listing:
